Susan Day – Oil, watercolour and pastel
While working in Paris, I started painting in oils, beginning with still lifes. Having attended courses in anatomy and life drawing at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and with the sculptor Rosy Lamb, I branched out into figurative art. My work includes a series of scenes in Parisian and Italian cafes, which focuses on changing social behaviour, particularly as it relates to modern technology.
Since settling in Dorset in 2016, I have drawn landscapes of the Dorchester water meadows and portraits in pastel; and holidaymakers on the Weymouth Esplanade have recently inspired a set of oils. Originals and postcards of the Paris series available.
