After moving to Dorset in 2006 and inspired by the light and moods of the sea and sky, I developed an urge to paint the fabulous seascapes and landscapes. Prior to this I experimented on my own, working in charcoal and then water colour.
Ruth Williams was starting a class in Portland which I joined, where, for the first time, I used oil as a medium. This is still my favourite medium. Ruth has always been great at instilling confidence and under her guiding hand I tried still life which was to me a discipline because drawing was not my strong point, however, I usually enjoy a challenge and also went on to draw animals which I thoroughly enjoy.
Later I enjoyed the classes given by Justin Cooke and Nicola Cooke which were always an inspiration. I sampled acrylic, pen and ink, etc., trying to work in the styles of the old masters and also some of the modern painters.
