Born in Scotland in 1970, I live in Fordington, with my working cocker, Isla.
Blissfully running about outdoors with my spaniel for much of the day, it’s unsurprising that most of my inspiration arises during these extended breaks, which, happily, makes them not breaks at all, but research for work.
It’s not uncommon for me to return from a run at Maiden Castle or the Water Meadows having encountered something I’ve found funny or quirky, with a new verse tapped into my phone, ready to be turned into a painting, and printed to frame. Following the attitude of Mary Newcomb who once remarked “it’s not a portrait, it’s an idea”, my latest work is unapologetically simple in technique, but wholly authentic in character. For me, it’s always about the story.
