More Information About Lucas

His subject matter attempts to capture the essence of an idea, sometimes comprising a number of threads, in a manner which is simple and attractive.

His chosen medium of block prints is well suited to this aim of distillation. The form and colours must work within the constraints of the medium to produce an image that is both elemental and expressive. A composition might be inspired by a specific incident or situation, but is primarily conceived as an appropriate means of portraying something intangible in our experience.

“I believe that impressions can stay in your mind for many years when they matter to you. For me, these impressions eventually take the form of drawings, in which I am trying to say something as simply as possible, but without losing any of the content. I have never seen a horse doing anything like this, for example, but he came into my mind as a way of expressing how we need to feel our way in life, and how difficult this can be. He is trying to do the right thing, and I hope that makes him likeable.”

Lucas Weschke has exhibited successfully in Bridport, Dorchester (Open08 prizewinner) and Weymouth, including mixed exhibitions with the Rodwell Artists. Each hand-made ‘original print’ is a unique piece of art within a strictly limited edition, and is signed and numbered by the artist accordingly. Signed reproduction prints are also available in a limited edition.
