Information about Artwey
Published: 17th June 2010
Artwey is the name chosen by a group of visual artists working in and around Weymouth and Portland.
Artwey is a Community Interest Company, details can be found at the CIC link.
For our first major event, we invited the public to visit us in our studios and exhibition spaces during September 2009, using this website and a printed map. We opened our studios, some in back gardens, some in unusual and interesting places such as a tower, a beach hut and an old waterworks.
Artwey’s artists hoped that you enjoyed our first ever open studio event and hope to see you back in 2010.
Artwey’s 2010 Open Studio event is on every weekend from 11th to 26th September. Some venues are open during weekdays as well, but some are not open every weekend, so check the entry before visiting. Similarly opening times vary.
Most of us can be contacted all the year round, so this website is worth bookmarking!
This event is an opportunity for the local community and visitors to discover the wealth of talent in the area. It is a chance to meet and talk with artists, see us being creative and share our stories of what inspires us and how we work.
Many venues serve refreshments or will recommend nearby watering holes, so visits can be an enjoyable day out for groups of friends.
There is no high pressure selling during the event, but it is possible to buy or commission an artwork or sign up for tuition.
Most artists cannot deal with credit cards, but cheques are accepted! Some artwork can be taken away immediately, but some will need a deposit – to be collected at the end of the month.
